Advance Machine & Tool Company was founded in 1959 by Darrel Kellog of Des Moines, Iowa. In 1967, Mr. Harold Sutherwick, a retiring Chief Engineer of DentalEze Manufacturing and the first Mayor of the City of Johnston, purchased the company and moved it to its present location in Johnston, Iowa.

This small engineering company and tool and die shop thrived while serving customers such as Maytag, Firestone, Meredith Publishing, RYKO Manufacturing and others while transitioning into a general machine shop under the ownership of Mr. Darryel Cherry, retired President of Fawn Sales Company, Clive, Iowa. The company specialized in short run production parts for these and other major manufacturing concerns.

In 1984, Mr. Jim Creighton purchased the company and began developing business in the printing industry. He also added CNC equipment in the production area.

Today, the business is owned by Terry and Glenna Trosper and is operated in a new building at the same location that the business has been for nearly forty years.
